Why active charcoal?

Charcoal has so many benefits including it's ability to absorb into your pores and draw out the dirt and oils that are blocking the pores!

Using our charcoal bar consistently on your face can reduce or eliminate acne, bumps and blackheads (when combined with our facial scrub and patchouli facial moisturizer)! Our charcoal soap is also a great body bar for an all over skin detox, as well as a wonderful soap for your hands as charcoal soap can help reduce pigmentation and make your hands look younger.

If that wasn't enough to have you grabbing up all the charcoal soap I've made, here's a few more benefits: charcoal soap won't dry out your skin, helps to fight odors (hello arm pits!), and my charcoal soap has shea butter added to soften & condition your skin! It's also a big 5.5 oz bar that will last and last as cold press soap is harder than any glycerin soap bars!

Lastly, this soap is made with my "hard bar" formula, just like all the soaps in the signature collection. Soaps made with this formula are not only super mild, but they last a really long time!

What's the Difference Between Handcrafted Soap and "Commercial" Soap?

Commercial soaps are manufactured in large factories (often located overseas) staffed with anonymous employees, using the most economical ingredients. Often they contain some or all synthetic detergents; most have the glycerin removed.

Batty's handcrafted soaps, on the other hand, are manufactured locally in small batches with the personal oversight and care of long-time soapmaker, Batty. Batty makes use of high-quality ingredients including specialty oils and botanical additives to personalize her formulations.

The creative artistry of Batty results in soaps that are different and unique, offering you a wide selection of soaps that are not only natural, but functional and beautiful as well.

How to Make Your Soap Bars Last

Once you've tried handmade soap you want every silky skin loving bubble to last! Thankfully I won't stop making handmade soap any time soon BUT I know you want each and every bar to last even longer than they already do! No problem! Here's a few tips on how to make them last!

  • Don't leave your handmade soap in the tub while you're soaking in the tub.
  • Make sure your handmade soap isn't in the water stream – keep it in a corner of the shower or tub where it won't be constantly hit by water.
  • Use a soap dish that provides appropriate drainage so your soap bar can completely dry out between uses.
  • Rub your soap bar onto a wash cloth & use that to get clean rather than rubbing the soap bar right onto your body.
  • Keep your soap bars in their packaging, in a cool dry place until you're ready to use them.
  • Consider cutting your soap bars in half and only putting one-half in the shower at a time.

Squeaky Clean
4 Stars

this product works well at removing makeup and the day's grime. This soap bar makes a nice lather which you can use to give yourself an extra clean scrub. Unfortunately, sometimes my face feels a little tight after using this. However, if you make sure to use some good products afterwards you'll be fine. Another small gripe that's based on my personal preference with facial cleansers is that you need to make sure that your soap is totally dry after you use it. Otherwise, this soap will stick to whatever it's resting on and get black soap all over the place. If you like facial soaps in bar format, then you'll already know this and will likely be fine with it! All in all, this is a solid product! I would recommend this.

Really Great Charcoal Bar!
5 Stars

I ordered my first charcoal bar about a month ago, and have since returned to order 2 more. Both my husband and I use this and love it. My skin is fair, oily t-zone, and occasional blemishes. My husband's skin is also fair and he's a redhead, so he has fairly sensitive skin and suffers from occasional breakouts that really stress him out. He loves this charcoal bar and has seen an improvement in his skin. My skin now looks and feels refreshed and has been able to combat any potential problem spots over the past month with continued use. I'm a new customer to Batty's Bath and in the past have used both drug store and department store cosmetics/skincare. Batty's products are definitely on par with some of my favorite high-end brands and I feel good knowing that all her products are certified cruelty-free and organic. And they smell fantastic!

Good product

I decided to try this on the recommendation of the EWG as their #1 choice. I have already noticed a reduction in the size of the pores around my nose and my face just feels cleaner. Since I also have Rosacea I decided to give this a try for that reason also. So far, so good. My husband also has Rosacea and he is using it also. I like the way my skin feels after. It rinses off easily and leaves no residue. This is our first time using it and we just feel better using a product that is natural without containing all those chemicals of unknown origins.

I was sceptical but now I'm sold

I have super sensitive skin and rosacea so purchasing a jet black bar of soap on the recommendation of a friend was a bit of a risk for me. I have been cutting little bars off the end of the large bar and using it for my face in the AM & PM and on my whole body in the shower. My skin is clean, smoother, comfortable and much less red and irritated. After I wash with the soap, I follow with the hydra rescue gel and then the Primer and Detox Moisturizer. Whole routine takes 5 min Max. The only thing is - advanced warning - that the soap bubbles and water coming off your face will be black so give your sink an extra quick rinse after using.

Activated Charcoal CP Soap Bar

I bought this as my first product from Batty's Bath. I've been using it at night to clean out my pores around my nose, cheeks and chin. After several days, my pores are visibly smaller and my skin smoother. Once caution! It works so well at eliminating oils and dirt that it can leave your skin very dry. I use other Batty's Bath products after using it to keep my skin moisturized. Keep up the great work Batty! And thank you for great products.

Clears face/body acne, great deoderant, gental for *everywhere*
5 Stars

I'm a 24-25 year old, white, fair-skinned/pink-undertone girl with (3+ years of) never-ending acne/dry skin. I was suffering from large "boil" acne on my nose/mouth/chin in addition to dry skin on my cheeks and sides of my mouth. Could not have seen results any quicker using this soap. It dried out my acne without doing damage to my dry skin. I buy a brick, cut it in half and use the other on my body. It's cleared up acne on my chest, and helps with underarm odor. It's honestly a wonder soap, I couldn't imagine the state of my face/body without it. My body freaks out whenever I used another soap/body wash.

YOWZA.....THIS IS THE REAL DEAL!!!!

This is the ONLY soap I will continue to use not only on my face, but on my body for the rest of my life....and that's NO JOKE! I came across this soap on the EWG's safe cosmetics database and boy am I glad I did! Not only has it cleared acne on my face but I find that I can go some days without deodorant and still be confident about the way I feel and smell. I also use this soap as a face mask and leave on while I'm cleaning, or surfing the net(btw it's on my face as I type my review). I rinse it off and I can see how much brighter my face is. Please never stop this making product as I always buy in bulk when getting this soap!! Customer for life!!!!

I love this bar!
5 Stars

I just recently added the charcoal bar to my washing regiment and I am so glad I did! I am prone to big pores and blackheads, and the charcoal bar has minimized the appearance of my pores and cleared out anything that was in there. My face always feels squeaky clean when I am done.

Seeing is Believing

I love this soap. The background for my skin is that it dry and oily. No normal T zone for me, mine is whatever it feels like doing for the day. I also have a scar that is jagged along the hairline at my left temple. Unless pointed out it usually is not noticed. I have been using the Black Charcoal soap for slightly more than a month and have noticed a overall difference in my skin. For one thing my skin is more balanced and not as red as it used to be. And now I have to mention the scar, at first I did not pay attention till a friend asked if I went and had it corrected. It is still there but the jagged edges are significantly smaller. This is a bonus!

Active Charcoal!

I love charcoal soaps and this one is definitely a winner. It gently exfoliates, smells great and doesn't leave any film on my skin. My skin feels much cleaner using this than it did when I used a "natural" bar from the drug store.
