I don’t believe in adding more products into your skin care routine then needed, so you might be wondering why I’ve added serums to my line!
First off, I use them all the time! Why? Because serums are liquid tonics that are packed with vitamins, anti-oxidants and natural ingredients that contain active properties that target specific concerns. So if there’s something specific you want to work on, serums are an easy way to add some extra oomph to your routine!
Secondly, serums are formulated to penetrate deep into your skin so they can heal and target specific concerns. They are able to penetrate deeper than moisturizers and can help restore skin to a balanced state (and isn’t that the point?). Plus, they are non-comedogenic, so no need to worry about clogged pores or a greasy residue.
But I already use a moisturizer! Why add a serum?
Although serums can be hydrating (my Hydration Serum is designed to do just that!), their main purpose is to add nutrients deep into your skin that a moisturizer isn’t able to reach. However, keep your moisturizer in your routine! Applying your moisturizer after you apply a serum will lock the serum into your skin allowing the serum to do its best work without evaporating into the air.
What makes the Hydration serum so awesome …
Sometimes a moisturizer isn’t enough to hydrate unbalanced skin! Why? Because your skin needs a balance of water and oils to stay balanced and keep it’s acid mantle intact (moisturizers only provide the oil portion of the equation). The skin’s acid mantle is your naturally protective layer of sebum. Without it, your skin (and system) is open to damage, infection, and oil imbalance.
Serums and Mists provide the water part of the balanced skin equation. Dehydrated skin is different from simply dry skin. Dry skin can be cured with moisturizers. Dehydrated skin on the other hand, has a lack of water (not oils), and a moisturizer isn’t enough. That’s where my hydration serum and mist comes in.
It is possible to have dry AND dehydrated skin. In fact, it’s common. But just as common is dehydrated OILY skin. My hydration serum and mist are the answer to dehydrated skin! Start with one, and add the other if needed. See how to use a mist, serum and moisturizer together under the “how to use” section.
Dehydrated skin is a bad thing! It leads to all kinds of problems including break outs (see below), congested pores, poor circulation, and poor texture. It also means your natural acid mantle can’t do its job: protecting you!
My hydration mist and serum are formulated to help you balance dehydrated skin once and for all!
But Batty! I have a question! ....
“But my skin is oily! The last thing I need is a hydration serum!” Think again!! Often skin produces excess oil as a response to being dehydrated!
“But isn’t a moisturizer enough?” Not always. Moisturizers don’t penetrate as deeply as a serum can. If your skin is dry even after moisturizing regularly, you need to add a serum to your routine.
“I can’t use this! I have acne prone skin!” Actually, it might be just what your acne prone skin needs to balance itself! Many people break out due to dry skin! Why? Because when your skin is dry and flaky, there’s a huge increase in dead skin cells sitting on the top of your pores. Those dead skin cells clog up your pores when they block oils from exiting your pores (and tada! You have yourself a pimple!). By adding a hydrating serum to your routine, the serum can penetrate deep into the layers of your skin and hydrate the layers that your moisturizer hasn’t been able to reach. Follow up your serum with a moisturizer and you’ll lock in all those hydrating ingredients. Your skin will drink it in and it will thank you! A serum and moisturizer combo is to your skin what a refreshing glass of fresh squeezed lemonade is to you on a hot summer day! Aww, refreshing!
Should I use the Hydration Mist or Hydration Serum?
: Start using the serum if you suspect the level of dehydration is severe. Start with the mist if you suspect the level of dehydration is mild.
: I generally suggest starting with one or the other (which ever your preference is). Then after a few weeks, if your skin needs an extra “drink”, add in the other to your routine (see how in the “how to use” section). Why do I say to start with your preference? Because you’ll be more likely to use it! ;)
: Additionally, the hydration MIST has been infused with provitamin B5 and vitamin B3 - both of which have been proven to support the skin's natural healing functions, AND protect the skin from further damage!
: The hydration mist is best used by pairing it with a product that you'll apply over top of the mist. For example, one of my facial moisturizers, body balm, eczema ointment, or a serum. The serum can "stand alone" better than the mist can.
How to use serums
: Apply your serum after applying your mist (if you’re using one), and before your moisturizer. While moisturizers help lock serums into your skin, serums help lock mists into your skin! You don’t have to wait for the mist to fully absorb before applying your serum. But you should wait a few minutes between applying your serum and moisturizer.
: Apply any time after you wash your face (hands, or other affected area)
: Since serums are hydrating, they can be a great alternative to a thick moisturizer during the hottest most humid days of summer! Skip the moisturizer during hot summer days, and use a serum instead. Then at night, apply all the moisturizer you like (and all the moisturizer your skin needs!)
: During the winter, our skin needs extra help staying hydrated and protected from the elements. So, layer up your protection by using a mist, serum and moisturizer before heading out into the cold (or spending a lot of time in the dry indoor air!).

I really didn't know I had a hydration issue until I tried this product and WOW my skin is so now soft! I have been using this product for about a month and a half and I have noticed a huge difference - my make up doesn't "catch" anymore and my skin feels great. I notice a huge difference when I do not apply it. Definitely found a new staple to my skin care regime - won't be without from now on. Thanks Batty!!
I suffer from perpetual dryness and I started off just using the patchouli moisturizer without a serum, yet I was still struggling with some dryness. After a little more reading on Batty's site about water based/oil based moisturizers, I ordered this. I have been using this underneath the Patchouli moisturizer as my night cream for a little over a year and the dryness is fixed! I recently ran out and didn't get around to ordering a new bottle for about a month and wow did my skin revolt! Cystic acne and white heads all over my face from hydration imbalance. Thanks, Batty, for providing a solution to a life-long struggle.
I was a little surprised the first time I opened this bottle. I first used the detox serum and then switched over to the hydration products. This serum is much more watery in consistency, and not oily at all. It smells amazing and works just the same. Really hydrates. Sometimes I put it under my moisturizer, sometimes atop. You can't go wrong with this serum! #battyforbattys
I've been using this serum since the end of 2013 and love it. I love how it makes my 40-something skin smoother and as part of my Battys products - my skin overall seems clearer, smoother and glowing. I love this serum.
You can feel the instant hydration with this serum. l even use it on my hands when they are really dry. Super hydration...super smooth skin.
I used the bloom serum in the summer and have switched to the hydration serum for winter as my skin tends to be a little drier. I love the results. Super smooth skin and a nice glow too !
This is the first real serum I have used. I use a lot more at night and less during the day before the quick tint moisturizer. Since I have been using this I have found the dark circles under my eyes have been diminished and my skin hasn't broken out at all during "that time of month" like it usually does. GREAT product!
